Exciting news, Red Deer! Starting July 8th, 2024, 22nd @ Taylor Dental Care will accept existing and new patients using the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). We are very proud to have joined the program and are thrilled to continue providing excellent dental care to our community with this government program.
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a new initiative designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for all Canadians. It covers many dental services, from routine check-ups to more advanced procedures. Though it is intended to eventually cover dental needs for all Canadians, the CDCP so far functions as the Government of Canada’s dental plan for seniors and kids. With the introduction of this plan, more Red Deerians can now enjoy peace of mind knowing their dental health needs are well taken care of.
Do You Qualify? Eligibility Criteria for Canadian Dental Care Plan in Alberta
To qualify for the CDCP, you must:
Not have access to other types of dental insurance
Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Have filed your tax return in the previous year
Here’s a chart outlining your eligibility for full or partial coverage based on your net family income:
Adjusted family net income | How much will the CDCP cover | How much you will cover |
Lower than $70,000 | 100% of eligible oral health care service costs will be covered at the CDCP established fees. | 0% of the CDCP established fees. |
Between $70,000 and $79,999 | 60% of eligible oral health care service costs will be covered at the CDCP established fees. | 40% of the CDCP established fees. |
Between $80,000 and $89,999 | 40% of eligible oral health care service costs will be covered at the CDCP established fees. | 60% of the CDCP established fees. |
Depending on your family’s income, you may need to pay a percentage of the cost of dental treatment. The federal government will pay a portion of the CDCP fees, and you will be responsible for additional charges known as co-payments. You will have to pay these amounts directly to your dentist, if:
your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $89,999; and
you receive dental care that the CDCP does not cover
If the cost of the treatment is higher than the relevant federal coverage, the difference will be billed to the patient.
